Like me*, you’re probably one of the horde who got to read a post by Datablitz in late November last year saying they’ve got the PS5 in stock but only in very limited numbers and if you wanted to get your hands on one, there would be a 5-minute window—from 9 p.m.-9:05 p.m.—when they would take in emails to get onto the waiting list. Just the inclusion on the waiting list, with no assurance you’d actually be able to buy one.

So I emailed. I had already written off P28,000 of my money to the PS5 long before I even got hold of the actual cash. I was good to go.

But then like me and most everyone else, you probably did not get a reply. You waited. Waited long. But the hard truth was you did not make it on the wait list.

That was last November. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been making my regular checks on Datablitz since late November of last year and it’s been more than a month now. Still no PS5 in sight, say the sales people and they have no idea when the next stash will come in.

It’s hardly Datablitz’s fault. They get what they can grab, and it looks like this shortage of PS5s isn’t even local. You got news from other countries saying the same thing. The geek rumor mill is rife with theories: Datablitz only ever got five units to sell; that Sony had limited resources to churn out PS5s last year; that the shortage is artificial so when the Pro and Slim come out, you can expect hits.

I don’t know, man. I just want a PS5. I have the 4, but that’s a 4. The 5’s a 5. Do I really have to explain?!
