On July 3, 2019, Mazda Philippines unveiled their latest Mazda 6 variants with significant updates at their dealership in Makati, and at the same event, let us take a close look at the 30th Anniversary edition MX-5.


Mazda 6 Sedan and Mazda 6 Sports Wagon

The Mazda 6 Sedan and the Mazda 6 Sports Wagon gets some serious updates. A new grille with chrome wings which extend way below the longer and slimmer headlights, with incorporated fog lights, give a more premium look. The taillights have also been redesigned.



The Mazda 6 Sedan gets a turbocharged gasoline engine, the 2.5L Skyactiv-G that puts out 230Hp with 420Nm of torque while the Sports Wagon is powered by the same naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G 2.5L engine which puts out 190Hp with 252Nm of torque. The Cylinder-Deactivation Technology, which shuts off the two outside cylinders when cruising, is a new feature which contributes to fuel economy. Both get a 6-speed automatic transmission and a new Skyactiv-Vehicle Dynamics suite which features G-Vectoring Control Plus, substantially improving road holding capability.



There are changes inside too, making for a more up market look and feel. Both driver and front passenger get power adjustable ventilated Deep Chestnut Nappa leather seats, suede accents, elegant Senwood trim. It comes with a sunroof and a heads-up display. There's also the Bose Premium 11-speaker Mazda Connect entertainment system that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.


Other amenities are the 360 degree camera, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. There’s the updated steering system, chassis dynamics and the addition of more sound absorbing material. This all comes with 19” alloy wheels, adaptive headlights and LED tail lights.


The Mazda 6 Skyactiv-G Turbo is priced at P2,250,000 and the Mazda 6 Sports Wagon is priced at P1,995,000.


Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition

To commemorate it’s 30th Anniversary, Mazda Philippines also unveiled a limited edition MX-5 RF. The MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition Retractable Fastback (RF) will be available in both A/T and M/T variants and exclusively in bright Racing Orange. Mazda will only produce 3000 units for distribution worldwide, and only 30 units were allocated for the Philippines–each car will have a badge with its individual production number as proof of its limited edition status.



The orange scheme carries over to the MX-5’s components, and the exclusive 30th Anniversary components like the 17” Forged Rays Alloy Wheels, Recaro Sports Seats, Ultra Suede Interior Accents, Racing Orange Brembo Front Brake Calipers and Special 30th Anniversary Serial Number Badging. The 30th Anniversary Edition is the culmination of 30 years of evolution on the MX-5, Mazda’s Jinba Ittai. If you’re interested in one of the 30 units of this special edition, it’s only Php2,990,000.
