Right now, we’ve got two interesting developments for the Pinoy driver. First, Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Barbers has filed House Bill No. 506 that limits the maximum parking fee to P100 for the first eight hours, and P10 per succeeding hour. It’s a response to the “excessive and unreasonable” fees you’re all familiar with. Side note: While we appreciate it, is price gouging of parking also endemic in Surigao or something?

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a measure like this though, just like the other current directive: DILG’s 60-day deadline for mayors to clear their cities’ roads of obstructions. Because sabi ni Duterte, of course, with the threat that “Give him [mayors] time and if he cannot–if he is not up to it, then pagpahingain mo na lang. Suspend mo na.”

Of course, yakang-yaka yan ni Mayor Isko

While we’d love to see both happen, we have a feeling that neither is going to come true. That, or the cheaper parking bill would actually materialize into law first before clean streets become a thing. Because despite the glacial pace of legislation in the country, we all know how temporary and fleeting any sort of cleaning operation is in Metro Manila.

As a member of the driving public, which of the two would you want to become a reality though? Aasa pa ba tayo?
