Tough Exterior

Not straying far from its Navara underpinnings, there’s no denying the Terra’s tough, muscular exterior.  It shares the same V-motion grille with the rest of Nissan’s lineup, which fits large LED headlights, while the edges of the hood flare upward blending with the fenders giving the front end a bulkier look about it.

Its simplicity extends to the rear where subtle flairs on the tire wells give it a muscular bump.  There are no plastic wheel arch flares, no cladding of any sort on any panels.  The rear is understated, and that takes nothing away from how good the Terra looks.  It rolls on 255/60’s on 18” alloy wheels.

Simple Interior

As macho as the exterior is, the interior is refined with brown leather on the seats and steering wheel. The Terra can fit seven people because there is a third row. You’ll be pleased to know that there are an abundance of 12V sockets for your devices—the dashboard’s top tray has one, there’s one near the gear lever on the bottom of the center console, and one in the storage area under the center console armrest.

Powerplant

Under the hood is the YD25DDti 2.5 liter variable turbocharger (VGS) equipped diesel that puts out 190Hp at 3600rpm with 450Nm of torque at 2000rpm, mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Tech

The Terra is equipped with Nissan Intelligent Mobility tech.  The Intelligent Around View Monitor allows you to see all around the Terra from above by camera views stitched together, located under the grille badge, under both side mirrors, and on the tailgate.

There’s a camera located higher up on the tailgate, which you can switch to if your view of the rear windscreen is obstructed. The image captured can be seen on your rear view mirror, and it’s as easy as flipping the switch under the Intelligent Rear View mirror. Other camera views include the area near the front rear wheel, which helps you get around obstacles you wouldn’t ordinarily be able to see.  The Terra is also equipped with Lane Departure and Blind Spot Warning.

The entertainment system (which has a flip down rear monitor that mirrors what’s on the main display up front) has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, which helps integrate mobile tech with the vehicle making utilizing their apps seamless and safer.

Should you get it?

The Terra Nissan Terra 2.5L VL 4x2 7AT we tested is priced at Php1,909,000.  That places it near the top of the price range of the high end 4x2 midsize SUVs on the market. It’s a 4x2 which means you’re limited to light dirt roads and mild unpaved climbs, but you do get good ground clearance for the Metro’s floods.

What you get is a masculine looking SUV that has yet to age and it’s equipped with some very good driver assist tech not available in its competitors, which should be handy—even if you don’t end up using it.
