He has been a beast since his teen years

Playing for Jefferson High School in Portland, Oregon, Jones was consistently named as one of the top 10 high school players of his batch. In only his junior year, Jones was averaging 32 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks, and 3 steals per game. He continued his dominant play as a senior with averages of 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists.

He was teammates with Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Jones spent two years in the US NCAA as part of the Kentucky Wildcats. After his sophomore season, Jones entered the NBA draft with teammates Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist, Marquis Teague, Doron Lamb, and Darius Miller. All of them were drafted (with Jones going 18th to the Houston Rockets) which still stands as the record for most players from one school being drafted in the same draft.

He was a decent NBA player

In his best season in the NBA, Jones played 76 games and averaged 12.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game. In 2014, Jones became the second youngest Rockets player after Hakeem Olajuwon to score 30 points or more with 36 against the Milwaukee Bucks.

He's not a very durable player

Aside from his obvious weaknesses in the outside and free throw shooting departments, the main thing that kept Jones out of NBA games was his tendency to get the weirdest injuries. In his relatively short stint in the NBA, Jones went down with a nerve inflammation, a partially collapsed lung, a concussion, a cut in his eyelid, and a respiratory infection to name a few.

He has been impressive in leagues around the world

Just like most other NBA players who were out of a contract, Jones tested the waters in the Chinese Basketball Association. He signed with the Qingdao DoubleStar Eagles (the same team Tracy McGrady played in) and averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 steal in 9 games. He was unceremoniously kicked off the team after a reported altercation with his coach during practice. After his CBA stint, Jones went back to the NBA G-League and was even signed to a 10-day contract with the Rockets. That didn't materialize into a longer deal and he eventually found his way to the TNT Katropa.
