The global sporting world was rocked with news that golf GOAT Tiger Woods figured in a near-fatal car crash near Los Angeles as his car flew off a road and flipped several times. Major news outlets all reported that law enforcement officials who responded to the scene said that Woods was “very fortunate to have survived.”

Last year, January 26, NBA GOAT Kobe Bryant figured in a helicopter crash. He wasn’t lucky. His death came as a shock because, well, Kobe doesn’t just die like that.

Tiger Woods came out of the car crash alive. In a statement by Harbor-UCLA Medical Center chief medical officer Anish Mahajan posted on Tiger Woods’s Twitter account,  Mahajan said Woods “suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his lower right extremity.” The statement further said “there were fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones” that required the insertion of a rod for stabilization.

“He is currently awake, responsive and recovering in his hospital room,” the statement said.

Woods has undergone four back surgeries between 2014 and 2017, says an AFP report. Could this latest injury be the end of his stellar golfing career?

We won’t know until he’s up and well. But what we do know: he made a spectacular comeback in the 2019 Masters. He knows what it takes to get back up.
