1. AKIN ANG KORONA (THE CROWN IS MINE)
Director: Zig DulayCast: Angel Aquino, Nar Cabico
Have you ever wondered how much of what you see on TV is real? It's always been dubious to us whenever a person being interviewed always seems to be able to cry on cue or have a sob story ready to tell at a moment's notice. Akin Ang Korona is a story about a boy from the province who agrees to become the subject of a reality show in the hopes of finding his long-lost father.
2. JESUSA
Director: Ronald CarballoCast: Sylvia Sanchez
Jesusa is a very timely film about the effects of drug abuse on a person. It's a film that really puts you into the shoes of a person going through the hells of withdrawal and how living in poverty makes the process even more gruesome.
3. JINO TO MARI (GINO AND MARIE)
If you hadn't heard already, adult films are really big in the Philippines. In fact, Pinoys actually spend the most time watching adult videos. This movie is about an underage boy and a young mother hired to do an adult film in Japan. It shows you how this seedy industry functions and how the lives of people involved in the business are affected.
4. PAILALIM (UNDERGROUND)
Having to work with dead bodies is already bad enough but being paid a measly sum for said work is even worse. Pailalim is about a gravedigger who is forced to steal a corpse and engage in some sketchy business in order to earn enough money to pay for his sick daughter's medication.
5. PERSONS OF INTEREST
A story of a blind cook with seemingly two personalities: One that he is conscious of and another that only his 6-year old son seems to know. Their peaceful lives are suddenly turned upside down when the cook gets accused of a mass poisoning. No one knows who's telling the truth—even himself.
