Eon Drake Buendia, 18, was born around the time his dad’s band The Eraserheads released their second to the last album Natin 99 (last is Carbon Stereoxide, 2001). The name his parents put on his birth certificate was Dracula.

Strange but true. Here is how it happened according to Eon, as recounted to him by his parents: “At the hospital my parents were asked what my name would be. They didn’t have any. Then my mom (Diane Ventura) sort of mumbled to my dad, ‘what was the movie we watched last night?’ It turned out to be Bram Stoker’s Dracula (Gary Oldman), so that became my name.”

Eventually, Ely had Dracula’s name legally changed. “My name was changed when I was about nine or ten, I think,” Eon says. Personally, I would have been okay if I was still Dracula. But Drake is fine, too.”

Cool pop culture is behind the second name, too. “Eon is from Aeon Flux, an animation series shown on MTV in the ‘90s. My dad had a huge crush on Aeon. Drake, they just shortened Dracula! Fun fact: before the name change, they kept my name a secret in school and called me Drake. They said that the Dracula on my birth certificate was a typo.”

Having grown up in such left-field circumstances, you can already guess that it was only a matter of time before Eon takes an interest in his dad Ely’s world. He is now taking a stab at the music scene as frontman and co-songwriter for a band called Lost Signals. Their debut gig was December of last year and they are currently at work recording a couple of songs soon to be uploaded on Spotify and iTunes.

In this AO Profiler Eon is joined by drummer and songwriting partner Moon Cairo Peralta (who is also the son of an OPM recording artist). They talk about how they got together, writing songs, and liking old ‘80s bands like Tears For Fears. Check it out:
