1. Red Dead Redemption

Rockstar Games has done a great job of creating a living, breathing world in Read Dead Redemption. The sprawling western has one of the best stories in video game history and certainly has more than enough material to base a movie (or two) on. We haven’t seen a good cowboy movie in quite a while and RDR should be able to fill that void easily.

2. Okami

Okami is one of the last great cell-shaded games we’ve played. Released by Capcom in 2006, the game is set in old Japan and takes a lot of elements from its myths and legends to populate the in-game world. There’s a ton of story content in the game but aside from that, we feel like a movie done in this style would be amazing to look at.

3. Horizon Zero Dawn

Aloy is simply one of the best protagonists to ever appear in video game history. If movie studios are looking for the next female-driven video game movie to replace Tomb Raider and Resident Evil, then Horizon Zero Dawn is the answer. A movie about a kickass woman taking on giant robot dinosaurs with a souped up bow and arrow? If that doesn’t spell blockbuster hit, then we don’t know what would anymore.

4. Mass Effect

The Mass Effect franchise is easily one of the biggest in the gaming industry. It’s a huge space epic that is so full of story possibilities. Moviemakers can easily make a trilogy from the original three games’ main storyline. But what we’re more excited about is if we can explore the other parts of Mass Effect’s vast universe (read: the Krogan Rebellion) in greater detail in various spinoff movies.

5. The Last of Us

The Last of Us movie was already hinted at numerous times in the past. But the most recent reports have stated that it has been put on hold because everyone’s focus is now on finishing The Last of Us 2. While we’re happy that it seems like an Uncharted movie has taken its place in the cinematic pipeline, we’re still hopeful that this particular game makes it to the big screen some time in the near future.
