If you haven't heard already, Avengers: Endgame has become the top-grossing film in the Philippines... ever! It has earned P1.3 billion as of today, which completely smashed the previous one held by The Hows of Us starring Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo, which peaked at about P900 million, give or take, according to boxofficemojo.com.

To put things into perspective, let's compare Avengers: Endgame's 1.3 billion to how much the total amount of every MMFF entry of 2018, which totalled at approximately a billion. Last year's MMFF was actually its most successful year so far. It included powerhouse money-makers like Vice Ganda's Fantastica, which has reportedly earned more than P500 million,

Vic Sotto's Jack Em Popoy, which reportedly grossed more than P300 million,

and Anne Curtis' Aurora, which was said to earn P107 million.

Avengers: Endgame has such a huge effect on cinema as a whole that it makes us wonder what could possibly top it? Marvel worked on Endgame for more than eleven years, that's the probably the most intense build up we've ever had for a concluding movie to a franchise. Yet, we can't help but be optimistic that this has somewhat gave the cinema industry the push it needed to make more quality movies to challenge Endgame's throne. Will the next titanic hit be another local romance movie? Maybe a local action film for once? Only time will tell but we're definitely on the edge of our seats.
