The Umbrella Academy on Netflix has been getting generally positive reviews. Based on the 2007 graphic novel of the same name, it tells the story of a family of superheroes and their eventual quest to save the world. Umbrella Academy was written by Gerard Way and if his name sounds familiar, it's because you probably know him from this:

Yes, Way is the frontman for My Chemical Romance, one of the most popular bands of the 2000s. It shouldn't come as a surprise that Way moonlights in another industry as a lot of other musicians have done it before, and continue to do so. Here are a few examples.

1. Billy Corgan

Smashing Pumpkins frontman and Professional Wrestling Executive

Billy Corgan, with his band The Smashing Pumpkins, has brought us so many hits over the years. Their albums Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness contain some of the best songs to ever come out of the '90s. But aside from fronting the Pumpkins, he is also a professional wrestling executive. He formed his own indie wrestling outfit called Resistance Pro back in 2011 and has since become the president of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and is now the owner of the National Wrestling Alliance.

2. Brian May

Guitarist of Queen and astrophysicist

We all know about Queen and the riffs and solos that Brian May has blessed us with. But did you know that he is also a bonafide astrophysicist? May finished his thesis titled A Survey of Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud (which we won't even pretend to understand) after a 30-year break from his studies (to play guitar) and got his PhD in 2007. He served as the chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University from 2008 to 2013 and even has an asteroid named after him.

3. Dave Rowntree

Blur drummer and computer animator / lawyer / politician

There used to be a period in music when the ultimate debate was Oasis versus Blur. Dave Rowntree was once in the middle of that conversation as the drummer of Blur. But aside from his beat-keeping duties for the band, Rowntree also has a lot of other stuff going on like owning an animation company and studying law during one of Blur's extended breaks. Just a couple of years ago, he was also elected as a Norfolk County councilor.

4. Art Garfunkel

One half of Simon and Garfunkel and math teacher

People who say artists are not good with numbers have obviously never heard of Art Garfunkel. Before becoming part of the hit-making duo Simon and Garfunkel, Garfunkel held a B.A. degree in art history and an M.A. in mathematics education. In between his stint with Paul Simon and his solo career, Garfunkel put his education to good use, teaching geometry at Litchfield Preparatory School in Connecticut.

5. Erykah Badu

The queen of neo-soul and a certified doula

Erykah Badu broke into the R&B scene in the late '90s with her album Baduizm. Since then, her music has been a staple in R&B and Soul stations worldwide. During the early 2000s, Badu discovered her passion of helping women through natural childbirth and became a certified doula or birth coach. She has mentioned in interviews that she has plans on eventually becoming a midwife and wishes to open her own birth centers.
