Before we start, here are your choices for a movie on V-Day 2019.

Alita: Battle Angel, live-action adaptation of an anime about a fighting cyborg femme.

Cold Pursuit, the latest Liam Neeson kill em'all revenge film.

Zombiepura, Singapore's "first zombie film."

Green Book, a biographical dramedy film about an African-American pianist and his Italian-American bouncer in 1962.

Happy Death Day 2U, slasher film meets Groundhog Day round 2.

The Lego Movie 2, a movie about those expensive bricks.

Alone/Together, romantic drama featuring the highly unrealistic pairing of a UP iska with a guy from UST (we kid.)

So, aside from that last entry, there isn't much choice for the traditional "romantic" film to warm you and the date up before the rest of the evening's activities. In fact, aside from the Fifty Shades movies in the past years, the V-Day sked doesn't really look any different from any other time of the year. Is it because the movie-and-dinner is no longer the preferred activity? Is the dinner part getting increasingly expensive and aspirational (it's gotta be very Instagrammable you know?) that the movie is cut from the budget? Is it the fact that you can eat and then Netflix-for basically free-and be able to roll over and get busy anytime? Whatever the case, we actually feel like seeing Alone/Together so good job on your timing Black Sheep. For the rest of you, is seeing a film on the agenda?

And in case you're trying to remember what you saw around this time last year: it was probably Black Panther.
